Chili Cook-Off Participant Rules:
-
All
participants must be registered by May 25, 2011. Payment
is due at the time of registration.
-
All
participants are required by the Virginia Health
Department to obtain a special permit in order to
participate. The fee of the permit is $20.
-
All participants will be
given a minimum of 3 hours and a maximum of 4 hours for
cooking their chili. Chili should be ready to be served
by 11 am. Set up begins at 7 am.
-
Participants must provide
their own cooking utensils, equipment, and chili
ingredients.
-
Prep work may be done
off-site (i.e. cutting vegetables, etc.), however, the
chili itself must be cooked on-site and visible to the
judges and event staff.
-
Meat may also be cooked
off-site, prior to the event if the permitted cooking
time is not long enough.
-
Participants must cook a
2-quart minimum and are strongly encouraged to provide
at least one topping/condiment for their chili (i.e.
cheese, crackers, cornbread, sour cream, etc.).
-
Participants must wear gloves when serving chili and any
toppings or sides.
-
Spaces are on a
first-come, first-serve basis.
-
All fires must be off of
the ground (i.e.—grills, cookers, etc.). No fires can be on the
black top or grass. No campfires are allowed, due
to the fire hazard and the destruction of the pavement
and/or grass. Please be prepared to bring a grill
or cooker to cook your chili, as this keeps the fire and
heat off of the ground.
-
NO ALCOHOL is permitted on
the event site, as this is a community and family event.
No alcohol is permitted in the Middletown Park. NO
EXCEPTIONS!
-
You are encouraged to give
your booth/cooking space a theme. Make it fun!
-
Judges
will take a sample from each booth and will judge on the
following categories: aroma, consistency, color, taste,
and aftertaste.
-
No one without an armband
is allowed to taste chili or help cook chili.
-
All cooking spaces must be
cleaned up by 4 pm. Nothing is to be left behind in your
designated area. Everything that is brought in must be
taken with you.
NOTE: Alcohol is prohibited in the park and will be
strictly enforced.
