MIDDLETOWN NEWSLETTER: VOLUME 3, ISSUE 3; MAY 15,

FOURTH OF JULY
COMMITTEE
Charles Harbaugh, Committee Chairman
I’m
very excited and looking forward to seeing everybody at our
4th of July Festival, scheduled for Saturday, July 3rd, in
the Middletown Town Park. Plan for an eventful day of fun,
food, games, music, and fireworks! We have several
interesting parade entries, band entries, and local softball
teams which ought to make this day-long event a rousing
success.
As
in the past, the 4th of July Committee is responsible for
raising all the funds needed. We are actively seeking both
corporate and individual sponsorships, and donations, as
well as sponsoring fund-raising events. Two mainstays,
softball tournaments (see below) and car washes, will be
held through the year. Aikens and Associates have already
stepped forward and have offered the use of their parking
lot in the front of the strip mall at 7710/20 Main Street
for car washes. So, if you see us set up there in the
coming weeks, be sure to stop and get your car cleaned; it’s
for a good cause.
If
anyone is interested in participating in the 4th of July
Festival or in any of our fund raising events, or just has a
question, please call me at 540 877-4594. Help us make this
year’s festival something everybody wants to be a part of!!
$500.00 MEMORIAL DAY SOFTBALL TOURNAMENT
There are still a few slots open for teams to enter the
Memorial Day softball tournament scheduled for Saturday, May
29, 2010. All proceeds go towards paying for the 4th of
July Festival fireworks. The format is a 10 team, 5 inning,
single elimination tournament with a $75.00 entry fee. Last
year’s participating teams are still talking about this
event - don’t miss out this year!
MIDDLETOWN
FIRE AND RESCUE
4TH OF
JULY PARADE
Megan
Bowers, Parade Director
This
year’s
parade will be held on Saturday, July 3, 2010 at 4 pm. The
parade line up will be from 2:30—3:40 pm on the parking lot
of Lord Fairfax Community College. Awards will be given out
following the parade, in the park. If you are interested in
participating in the parade this year, please complete an
entry form available at both the fire station and the Town
Office, or online at
http://www.middletownfire.com/4thparadeforms.htm.
We
have lots of great entertainment planned, including
horse-drawn carriage rides through town following the
parade. Be sure to visit
www.middletownfire.com/4thofjuly.htm for more
information on the parade and festivities.
YOUR HELP IS NEEDED: We are in need of convertibles for
several of our dignitaries, including and not limited to the
following: the citizen of the year, local political
figures, state political figures and our grand marshal. Due
to liability purposes, most of the car dealerships no longer
allow the public to use their vehicles in parades, so we
must depend on the great citizens of Middletown and the
surrounding areas. It’s also a great opportunity to drive
someone through the parade and to support your community!!
If you are interested, please contact Megan Bowers at
mvfd12@hotmail.com
or 540-247-1913. Middletown's annual 4th of July Celebration
is a hometown, community event that promotes our small town,
family atmosphere. We look forward to seeing you on the 3rd
for a day full of family fun and entertainment.

FOURTH OF JULY
COMMITTEE
Charles Harbaugh, Committee Chairman
This year’s
4th of July Celebration will be a great event for the Town
and I encourage everyone to attend the monthly meetings, to
help share and exchange ideas on how to make the event
better than previous celebrations. The celebration will be
on Saturday July 3rd instead of Sunday July 4th. This year
we plan to have a Softball Tournament in the morning, the
parade at 4:00 p.m., Battle of the Bands a 6:00 p.m. and
Fireworks at dusk, with children’s games, food, and crafts
vendors throughout the day.
As we did
last year, we are forced to raise the $4000.00 for the
fireworks show, and to do that we rely on business
sponsorships, and donations. We are going to be having
several car washes in the next few months to raise that
money and I would love to see everybody get there car washed
and drop five dollars in the plate towards the fund. In
addition, we are having three softball tournaments on
Memorial Day, Fourth of July, and Labor Day, if anybody is
interested in those or would like to put a team in please
give me a call.
Our
upcoming meetings will be Monday nights at 7:00 p.m. at the
Town Office, March 29, April 19, May 17, June 21, and June
29. I would love to hear from anybody with thoughts or
ideas on how to make this event the best around.
Thank You,
Charles Harbaugh

FOURTH OF JULY
COMMITTEE
Charles Harbaugh, Committee Chairman
As
you read this, we have just six months to plan, coordinate,
raise funds and contract vendors for the annual Middletown
4th of July celebrations. Last year was a tremendous
success and I’m sure we can make it even better this year.
We’re now looking for volunteers - individuals, church
organizations, non-profit groups, scouts, businesses, best
friends - who are willing to donate a few hours each month.
No expertise is needed, just a desire to have fun while
promoting a worthy event.
The
first organizational meeting will be held in the Town
Council chambers on Monday, February 15, 2010, at 7:00 pm.
If you have any questions, call me at 540-877-4594.
